A Dying Star Created This Glowing Shell of Gas in Deep Space
The Southern Ring Nebula is the expanding aftermath of a star shedding its outer layers. Webb's infrared view separates shells, filaments and the stars at the centre with enough clarity to turn a distant stellar death into an almost tactile object.
