A Horse’s Head Once Wore This Gold-Decorated Armour for a Future King of France
This steel, gold and brass shaffron — armour for a horse's head — was redecorated for the future Henry II of France. Its sculpted form and gilded ornament make an extraordinary reminder that Renaissance ceremonial armour extended to the horse as well as the rider.
