The practical Dubai postcode answer
Dubai does not use an area-by-area postcode or ZIP-code system. Here is what to put on a form, how to address real mail, and the details a courier actually needs to find you.
START HERE
Looking for a Dubai postcode? There is not one to look up.
The useful answer: Dubai does not use a postcode or ZIP code by neighbourhood. A postal address and a delivery address are not quite the same thing: for mail, Emirates Post’s own UAE addressing guidance asks for the recipient’s name, P.O. Box, physical address, emirate and telephone number; for doorstep deliveries, a precise building, unit, phone number and location details matter most.
So there is no different “Dubai Marina postcode”, “Jumeirah ZIP code” or “Downtown Dubai postal code” to search for. Use the correct route below instead — and never let a five-digit placeholder replace your real address details.
QUICK PICKS
What should you enter right now?
Choose the situation, not the area. The correct information depends on whether you are completing a checkout, receiving a courier or sending actual mail.
Use a placeholder only if the field cannot be left blank — then give the merchant your real address and phone number.
✉️Letters & documentsPostal mailUse your actual P.O. Box plus the physical address, emirate and a reachable phone number.
📦Doorstep deliveryCourier, food or driverGive the building, unit/villa, area, mobile number, map pin and Makani number where possible.
📍Finding the entranceMakani numberUse Dubai’s 10-digit geographic-address reference to help a driver locate the right building entrance.
📮Long-term mailNeed a P.O. Box?Emirates Post offers personal mailbox services for a verified postal address and, depending on the plan, home delivery.
⚠️Common mistakeDo not invent a postcodeA random number is not a Dubai delivery address — and Emirates Post’s P.O. Box 99999 is its own headquarters box.
ADDRESS MATCHER
Choose the right address in under a minute
The checkout will not accept a blank ZIP field
Enter 00000 only as a technical placeholder if the site requires five digits and offers no valid UAE alternative. It is not an official Dubai postcode. Keep your building, area and phone details accurate elsewhere on the order.
See the form checklist →I am sending a letter or important document to Dubai
Ask the recipient for their real P.O. Box and full physical address. Emirates Post’s published UAE format includes both, plus the emirate and telephone number.
See the postal template →I need a courier to find my apartment or villa
Use the building/villa name and number, unit, area, recipient’s UAE mobile number, a map pin and — where available — the Makani number.
See the courier checklist →I need a stable address for regular mail
Rent a personal P.O. Box or choose an Emirates Post home-delivery mailbox plan. Do not use a friend’s, employer’s or generic P.O. Box unless you have permission.

Useful guidance, not a made-up postcode list
This is an address guide, not a ranking. We checked the official Emirates Post address standard and mailbox services, plus Dubai Municipality/Makani information, then separated postal-mail guidance from practical doorstep-delivery advice.
How this guide decides what is safe to publish+
Dubai address advice online is full of copy-and-paste “postcode” lists. We do not publish a different code for every neighbourhood because there is no official Dubai postcode-by-area directory to use for mail. Where a number appears in this guide, it is labelled accurately: a P.O. Box, a technical placeholder or a 10-digit Makani geographic reference.
THE PRACTICAL ANSWER
Six address routes that work in Dubai
Each card solves a different real-world problem. Start with the delivery method — not the district you live in.
FOR A MANDATORY ONLINE ZIP FIELD
Use 00000 only as a technical placeholder
Useful for a stubborn online form — never a substitute for your real address
Some international checkouts are designed around countries with a ZIP-code system and will not accept a blank field. In that narrow case, 00000 is commonly used as a technical placeholder. It does not identify a Dubai neighbourhood, building or delivery zone. The parcel still depends on the recipient details you provide.
Why this works — and when it is not enough+
Why it can work: it satisfies a rigid web form that expects five numerical digits. Once a parcel is handed to a courier, the physical address and contact information become the meaningful delivery information.
When it is not enough: for postal mail, official correspondence, customs-sensitive shipments or any seller that requests a P.O. Box. In those cases, obtain the recipient’s exact postal details rather than guessing.
FOR LETTERS, DOCUMENTS & POSTAL PARCELS
Use a real P.O. Box and the full UAE address
The formal mail route — not a postcode lookup
For mail handled as postal mail, ask for the recipient’s own P.O. Box. Emirates Post’s published UAE addressing format calls for the recipient’s name, P.O. Box number, physical address, emirate and telephone number. A correctly written P.O. Box helps mail reach the intended recipient; the physical address and phone number add useful confirmation.
Why it is here — and what not to write+
Why it is here: it reflects the official UAE address elements published by Emirates Post, rather than internet folklore about district “postcodes”.
Do not write: “Dubai 00000” as though it is a complete postal address; an invented P.O. Box; or Emirates Post Group’s own P.O. Box 99999, which is the head-office address shown on its contact page.
FOR COURIERS, FOOD DELIVERY & VISITORS
Give the building, phone, pin and entrance details
The practical doorstep-delivery address
A courier is trying to find a physical entrance, not a mailing district. The highest-value details are a building or villa number, community/area, apartment or office number, recipient mobile number and a live map pin. Add the Makani number where it is available; it helps remove ambiguity around the entrance.
Why this is more useful than any postcode+
Why it works: it describes the destination a driver can actually reach. Makani’s 10-digit geographic reference is designed to identify an entrance precisely, but it is most effective alongside the usual human delivery information.
Choose a P.O. Box instead: when receiving formal postal correspondence or when the sender specifically requires an Emirates Post mailing address.
FOR PRECISE BUILDING LOCATION
Use the 10-digit Makani number
Dubai’s geographic-address reference — not a postcode
Makani is Dubai Municipality’s geographic-addressing system. The official app description identifies a Makani number as a 10-digit reference for locating a building entrance precisely. It is particularly helpful for drivers, visitors and service providers who need to reach the correct building rather than simply the right neighbourhood.
Why this matters — and how to avoid a mix-up+
Why it matters: postcodes sort broad geographic regions in many countries; Makani is intended for a much more precise physical-location task.
Do not confuse it with: a P.O. Box, an apartment number, a postcode or a bank/identity address field that explicitly asks for a postal mailing address.
FOR REGULAR, VERIFIABLE MAIL
Rent a personal P.O. Box or mailbox plan
A real postal address for people who receive more than occasional courier parcels
A P.O. Box is the appropriate long-term option when you need a consistent address for letters, documents and parcels handled through the postal system. Emirates Post currently offers personal mailbox services, including MyBox and home-delivery mailbox plans. Check the live plan page before buying because features, fees and delivery terms can change.
Why it is here — and when a courier address is enough+
Why it is here: a P.O. Box is not a postcode, but it is the proper long-term postal-address tool for someone who needs one.
Use a courier address only: for a merchant whose courier delivers straight to your property and does not require a postal-mail address. The two delivery systems can coexist.
THE MISTAKES THAT CAUSE CONFUSION
Do not use a generic or invented address number
A P.O. Box, Makani number and postcode are three different things
The fastest way to turn a simple delivery into a problem is to use a number you found online as though it belongs to you. A placeholder does not make an address real; a P.O. Box belongs to its subscriber; and a Makani number points to a physical place rather than to a person’s post.
The safest 30-second final check+
Before submitting: confirm the recipient’s name, current UAE phone number, building/villa, unit, locality, delivery note and — for postal mail — the actual authorised P.O. Box.
For a costly or time-sensitive shipment: ask the sender or courier to repeat the formatted label back to you, then track the item and stay reachable on the delivery day.
COPY-READY TEMPLATES
Write the address for the situation
Replace every bracketed item with the real recipient information. These are formats, not invented address data.
Postal mail to a Dubai recipient
Use for letters, documents or an item being addressed through the postal system.
[Recipient full name] P.O. Box [recipient’s real box number] [Building / villa, street, flat or unit] Dubai, United Arab Emirates Tel: +971 [mobile number]
Mirrors the address elements Emirates Post publishes for UAE shipments. Confirm the P.O. Box directly with the recipient.
Courier delivery to an apartment
Use in the address and delivery-note fields, then add a map pin in the courier app where possible.
[Recipient full name] [Apartment number], [Tower / Building name] [Community / area], Dubai, UAE Makani: [10-digit number, if available] Mobile: +971 [mobile number] Delivery note: [reception / parking / call instruction]
For a courier, a correct building and a reachable phone are more useful than any supposed postcode.
Courier delivery to a villa
Use full community and street guidance. Add a nearby landmark only if it improves clarity.
[Recipient full name] Villa [number], [street / cluster] [Community], Dubai, UAE Makani: [10-digit number, if available] Mobile: +971 [mobile number] Gate note: [clear driver instruction]
Do not put a gate code or private access credential into a public, reusable address profile.
Checkout where ZIP is mandatory
Use only after the country is set to UAE and the form will not permit a blank field.
Country: United Arab Emirates Postcode / ZIP: 00000 Address line 1: [building / villa + unit] Address line 2: [community / area] City: Dubai Phone: +971 [mobile number] Delivery note: [entrance / reception / map pin]
Important: 00000 is a placeholder for a rigid form, not the address that gets a courier to your door.
AREA QUESTIONS, ANSWERED
The answer is the same across Dubai
Dubai neighbourhood names help with delivery context, but they do not create a unique postal-code system.
Dubai Marina, JBR & JLT
There is no district ZIP code to enter. Use your tower name, apartment, community, mobile number, reception details and Makani/map location where applicable.
Use the apartment checklist →Downtown, Business Bay & DIFC
Use the precise tower/building and unit. For office deliveries, include floor, suite and company/reception name as well as a contact number.
See the courier template →Jumeirah, Arabian Ranches & villa communities
Use villa number, street/cluster, community, gate note and phone number. A Makani number and shared map pin can cut down driver calls.
Use Makani correctly →Deira, Bur Dubai & older districts
Use building name/number, street, flat number and a local contact. For real postal mail, add the recipient’s authorised P.O. Box.
Use the postal route →BEST BY SITUATION
Use the right address tool
For shopping online
Use building/unit, area and mobile. Add 00000 only if the checkout refuses a blank mandatory ZIP field.
For an international sender
Send them the full recipient name, real P.O. Box, physical address, emirate, country and phone number.
For a large or valuable courier parcel
Confirm the building entrance, unit, UAE phone, delivery time window, map pin and driver access instructions.
For official or recurring correspondence
Use a P.O. Box or a postal mailbox service registered to you or to an authorised organisation.
For a visitor or service provider
Share a map pin and Makani number with a building/villa reference, then stay reachable by phone.
For privacy and security
Do not share access codes publicly. Keep essential delivery details inside the merchant/courier system where possible.
BEFORE YOU SEND
The 60-second address check
Open before sending a letter, entering a checkout address or arranging delivery+
1. Is it postal mail or a physical courier delivery? Use a real P.O. Box for postal mail when required; use physical entrance details for couriers.
2. Is the phone number live? A reachable UAE number is frequently the difference between a completed delivery and a failed attempt.
3. Is every number labelled correctly? P.O. Box, flat/villa number, Makani reference and a form placeholder do different jobs. Never swap one for another.
4. Is the address current? Check building names, unit numbers, reception arrangements, maps and gate instructions after a move or building-management change.
PRACTICAL DELIVERY ADVICE
Small details that prevent missed deliveries
Save one clean address note
Keep a current version of your building/villa, unit, area, Makani, map pin and driver instructions in your phone. It reduces inconsistent versions across shopping and courier apps.
Use a reachable UAE mobile number
International senders and local couriers may need to confirm arrival, customs questions or a missed-delivery attempt. Check country code formatting when ordering from abroad.
Separate postal and courier profiles
Where a site offers both a P.O. Box and delivery-address field, complete both accurately rather than putting one number in every field.
Update access information
New tower rules, changed receptions and community gates can affect delivery. Update notes after moving and before expensive or time-sensitive shipments.
