What you need to know
Only the Abu Dhabi to Fujairah and Fujairah to Abu Dhabi route is operating in the introductory passenger phase.
The official journey time is 1 hour and 45 minutes, with six daily trips confirmed during the introductory phase.
Official starting fares are Dh55 for Comfort Class and Dh120 for Premium Class. Treat these as starting or introductory launch fares, not permanent prices.
The officially confirmed booking channels are the Etihad Rail mobile app and the Etihad Rail website.
Dubai residents cannot board in Dubai yet. Dubai Station is scheduled to open for passenger service on 30 September 2026.
Media-reported Etihad Rail guidance says bicycles, e-scooters and e-bikes are not permitted. Recheck the Passenger Charter before packing.
The current Etihad Rail passenger service is Abu Dhabi to Fujairah only
Etihad Rail’s first scheduled passenger service is operating between Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed bin Zayed City Passenger Train Station and Fujairah Station. The introductory operational phase began on 30 June 2026, and Abu Dhabi Media Office confirmed on 3 July 2026 that scheduled passenger rail services had begun with six daily trips.
The key point for travellers is simple: this is a live passenger service, but it is not yet the full UAE passenger rail network. If you are in Dubai, Sharjah or Al Dhafra, you cannot yet board from your own emirate or region. You need to travel to Abu Dhabi or Fujairah first if you want to use the service during this introductory phase.
The passenger fleet comprises 13 trains, with each train officially described as having capacity for up to 400 passengers. Fujairah Station was previously described by Abu Dhabi Media Office as the first completed passenger station on the Etihad Rail network.
Reported launch departures in both directions
Official sources confirm six daily trips and a journey time of 1 hour and 45 minutes. The detailed launch timetable below is media-reported and should be treated as subject to live confirmation on Etihad Rail’s website or app before you leave home.
| Direction | Reported departure | Approximate arrival based on 105 minutes |
|---|---|---|
| Fujairah to Abu Dhabi | 5:34am | 7:19am |
| Fujairah to Abu Dhabi | 10:59am | 12:44pm |
| Fujairah to Abu Dhabi | 5:28pm | 7:13pm |
| Abu Dhabi to Fujairah | 8:19am | 10:04am |
| Abu Dhabi to Fujairah | 1:53pm | 3:38pm |
| Abu Dhabi to Fujairah | 6:39pm | 8:24pm |
Because Etihad Rail’s booking and live schedule tools are dynamic, this article should not be used as a substitute for the live booking screen. Search your exact route and date in the app or on the official website before travelling.
Fares, Comfort, Premium and how to book
Abu Dhabi Media Office states that fares on the Abu Dhabi to Fujairah route start at Dh55 for Comfort Class and Dh120 for Premium Class. These should be read as starting fares in the launch period. UAE media have described the prices as part of an introductory discount, but no permanent fare table or end date was available in the verified dossier.
- Comfort Class: Officially listed from Dh55. Media reports say Comfort includes guaranteed seating, Wi-Fi and power outlets, but exact class inclusions should be rechecked before booking.
- Premium Class: Officially listed from Dh120. Media reports say Premium has wider seats and complimentary refreshments, but this remains an operational detail to confirm in the app or booking flow.
- Booking channels: Etihad Rail’s mobile app and official website are the confirmed booking channels.
- Station sales: Media have reported station sales or ticket vending options, but the accessible official text in the dossier clearly confirmed app and website booking. Do not rely on buying at the station unless Etihad Rail confirms availability.
Early demand appears strong. Reputable UAE media have reported that more than 10,000 tickets were sold before or around launch. Treat that as demand context rather than a guarantee of future sell-outs or availability.
Where the stations are and how to reach them
The Abu Dhabi end of the route is Mohamed bin Zayed City Passenger Train Station. The Fujairah end is Fujairah Station. Official announcements say the passenger rail network is intended to integrate with other transport options, but some first-mile and last-mile details remain live operational information.
Media reports describe car parking, bus stops, taxi and e-hailing zones, and pick-up and drop-off areas. Parking capacity was not officially confirmed in the accessible dossier.
Media reports say the station has taxi ranks, e-hailing pick-up and drop-off, bus connections and a rental-car desk from day one. Recheck on the day if any of these are essential to your trip.
UAE media report dedicated Dh10 Etihad Rail shuttle buses to and from ADNOC HQ, ADNEC Centre and Reem Mall, bookable with a train ticket. This should be checked in the Etihad Rail app or website before relying on it.
Abu Dhabi Mobility’s public transport pages confirm the wider Abu Dhabi bus network and Mohamed bin Zayed City bus station and customer-service context, but the dossier did not find a current official Abu Dhabi Mobility page dedicated to Etihad Rail shuttles.
Boarding, baggage, pets and banned items
Several detailed passenger rules are supported in the dossier by UAE media citing Etihad Rail guidance because the official booking and passenger charter pages are dynamic. Editors should re-open the Passenger Charter and app before publication, and readers should check again before travel.
- Arrive with time to spare: The service is new and stations may be busy. Keep your ticket and ID ready for checks.
- Baggage: Media-reported guidance says adults and children aged three and above may carry two luggage items free of charge: one personal item and one cabin bag. The reported cabin-bag size is 55cm x 40cm x 23cm.
- Pets: Media reports say domestic pets are allowed in an approved carrier within the permitted size, with one pet carrier per passenger counting as carry-on allowance.
- Assistance dogs: Media reports say trained or certified assistance dogs are allowed but must be booked in advance through Etihad Rail’s Contact Centre.
- Not permitted: Media reports say bicycles, e-scooters and e-bikes are not permitted on passenger services.
- Platform safety: Follow station signs, keep aisles, doors and emergency exits clear, stand back from platform edges and allow passengers to exit before boarding.
- Lost items: Etihad Rail has official help and support channels, but a detailed lost-and-found workflow was not fully visible in the dossier. Contact Etihad Rail support for items lost on rail services.
Seats, Wi-Fi, charging, food, retail and accessibility
Abu Dhabi Media Office’s 3 July update says the passenger experience includes guaranteed seating, complimentary Wi-Fi, charging ports at every seat and ample luggage space. Official announcements also refer to onboard dining options and station facilities including cafés, restaurants, retail outlets and international brands.
During an introductory phase, travellers should avoid assuming every outlet, refreshment service or class feature will be available on every journey. If Premium Class refreshments, mobility-aid arrangements or a particular station facility matters to your trip, confirm it in the Etihad Rail app, Passenger Charter or Contact Centre before booking.
Media station previews have also identified features such as ticket vending machines, information and support desks, waiting areas, family waiting areas, prayer rooms, toilets, first-aid rooms, food and beverage, retail, parking, taxi and e-hailing zones, and bus stops. Treat the exact availability of these services as subject to station operations on the day.
What happened on the first public journey
The first public passenger journey is reported to have departed Fujairah at 5:34am on 30 June 2026 and arrived at Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed bin Zayed City station at around 7:19am, consistent with the official 1 hour and 45 minute journey time.
First-day reports described strong public interest, including a media-reported claim of more than 10,000 tickets sold before or around launch. That is useful context for the public response, but it should not be treated as practical travel advice for future dates. For upcoming journeys, the live schedule and seat availability are what matter.
When Dubai, Al Dhaid, Al Dhafra and Sharjah join
Dubai is not part of the current passenger service. As of 3 July 2026, Dubai residents who want to ride Etihad Rail must first travel to Abu Dhabi or Fujairah by road, taxi, bus or another available transport option.
No fresh official Dubai Roads and Transport Authority operational page was found in the dossier confirming Dubai Station access, Metro or bus interchange details, taxi arrangements or opening-day access. Until Etihad Rail or RTA publishes those details, do not assume a specific interchange plan.
Passenger rail, freight and the UAE Railway Programme
Passenger services are operated by Etihad Rail Passenger Services, a joint venture between Etihad Rail and Keolis. Official announcements place the project within the UAE Railway Programme, part of Projects of the 50, and link it to integrated transport, freight services and the UAE Net Zero 2050 Strategy.
The passenger launch builds on an existing freight network. Official January 2026 context said Etihad Rail freight operations in 2025 transported more than 6.5 million tonnes of sulphur, more than 10 million tonnes of aggregates and 148,000 containers.
Official sources also say feasibility studies will evaluate expansion of the passenger rail network to additional emirates in a next phase. Those studies are not the same as confirmed routes, stations or opening dates.
Before you go
- Check Etihad Rail’s live schedule and seat availability on the website or app before leaving home.
- If you live in Dubai, plan how you will reach Abu Dhabi or Fujairah until Dubai Station opens, currently scheduled for 30 September 2026.
- If the Abu Dhabi shuttle option appears in your booking flow, reserve it with your train ticket and confirm the pick-up point.
- Review baggage, pet, assistance-dog and banned-item rules before packing.
- Arrive early, keep your ticket and ID ready, and allow extra time for wayfinding during the introductory phase.
